Wichita Falls area high school softball/baseball scores, top performers

IOWA PARK – AJ Ramirez lined a double to right field with one out in the bottom of the eighth, allowing Brayden Moreno to score from second and Iowa Park to walk off with a 1-0 victory in a key District 7-3A matchup Thursday.

Henrietta (12-11-1, 7-5) outhit the Hawks, 9-6, but couldn’t find the timely hit to drive a run home.

The pitchers’ duel between Iowa Park starter CJ McNiel and Henrietta ace Caden Frost stole the show.

Frost was the tough-luck losing pitcher after allowing the game’s lone run on six hits and two walks with four strikeouts in 7 ⅓ innings.

McNiel threw 6 ⅔ innings of shutout ball, allowing eight hits and one walk with nine strikeouts. But it was Braxton Vest who earned the win, pitching the final 1 ⅓ innings and allowing no runs on a hit and a walk with two strikeouts.

Henrietta’s district season is over, and the Bearcats are locked into the No. 2 seed in the Class 3A Division II playoff bracket.

Iowa Park (17-7, 7-3) is tied with Holliday (12-7, 7-3) for second place in the district with both teams postseason bound and headed to the Division I bracket. The Hawks finish with a two-game series against City View (8-15, 3-7), while Holliday draws district leader Jacksboro (16-4, 9-1).

Callista Berrett, Iowa Park softball

The Lady Hawks are the District 7-3A champions after a 14-4 victory against Henrietta on Thursday, a win spearheaded by Berrett’s efforts at the plate and in the circle.

She went 3 for 5 at the plate with a run, two RBIs and a homer, while allowing four earned runs on seven hits and a walk with nine strikeouts in six innings.

Cannon Valenzuela, Jacksboro baseball

Valenzuela continued his run of stellar performances on the mound, stifling City View’s bats in a 4-1 victory and pitching Jacksboro to at least a share of the District 7-3A title. The Tigers (16-4, 9-1) can clinch the district outright with one win in next week’s two-game series against Holliday.

Against City View, Valenzuela allowed one unearned run on three hits and a walk with 15 strikeouts in seven innings.

Avery Kowalick, Holliday softball

Kowalick has developed into one of the area’s top sluggers this season, and she showed off her power in an 11-6 victory against Bowie on Thursday, going 3 for 4 with a double, two homers, three runs scored and three RBIs. Kowalick has six home runs on the season.

The win clinched a playoff spot for the Lady Eagles (16-8-1, 7-5) who staved off Bowie’s late-season charge to steal that berth.
