President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump presided over the White House Easter Egg Roll today on the South Lawn.
Joined by the first lady and a life-sized Easter bunny, Trump addressed the crowd of children and parents from the Blue Room balcony, decreeing, “We’re bringing religion back in America. We’re bringing a lot of things back, but religion is coming back to America.” He also addressed the death of Pope Francis, who died today at 88, hours after meeting with Vice President J.D. Vance. “He was a good man, worked hard, he loved the world,” Trump said of the late Pope.
During Trump’s first term, the first lady wore more traditional Easter attire for the annual egg roll. In 2017, she opted for a pale pink dress from Hervé Pierre; The following year, she wore a pale blue cashmere jacket from Burberry; In 2019, she wore a blue dress by Michael Kors.
This year, however, she opted for a more muted look in an off-white, double-breasted trench coat outfitted with a storm flap. Her shoes also abided by this palette: she wore a pair of gray patent leather pumps from Roger Vivier. Other attendees opted for more traditional pastels, like Donald Trump Jr.’s girlfriend, Bettina Anderson, who wore a pale yellow double-breasted coatdress with diamante buttons, or Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, who wore a blue lace midi dress from Poava. All were a far cry from President Trump, who chose not to stray from his MAGA-red tie.
