Brian Sorensen signs new two-year Everton contract

Everton Women’s head coach Brian Sorensen has signed a new two-year contract.

reported Sorensen, 44, was in advanced talks over a new deal and he has now signed fresh terms through to 2027. His previous contract had been set to expire in 2026.

Everton’s new owners, The Friedkin Group (TFG), has been impressed with performances since its takeover in December and getting a new deal for Sorensen over the line was considered part of the next step in the women’s team’s new era under its ownership.

“I have spoken to our owners and we want stability and to try to create consistency in what we are doing,” Sorensen said. “Putting together a very competitive squad is the first aim for the summer. Then, secondly, making sure we build our staff and performance around it at Finch Farm every day.

“When we put all of that together, let’s see where it can take us. I’m very confident we are in a project heading in the right way.

“I’m happy the team continue to buy into the way we want to play. The excitement for what’s to come is really big and that’s also one of the reasons I’m really happy to be staying.”

Sorensen joined Everton from Fortuna Hjorring in the summer of 2022 and led the club to sixth and eighth-place Women’s Super League finishes in his first two seasons in charge.

Following a slow start to the 2024-25 campaign, an encouraging run of results since November — including a victory over Liverpool at Goodison Park and a 2-1 win over Manchester City —  has moved Everton up to eighth in the WSL, four points behind Liverpool in fifth and 11 points clear of relegation.

reported in February Everton are considering making Goodison Park the new home for the women’s team as the men’s side move to the new Everton Stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock ahead of the 2025-26 campaign.

Everton return to action against Brighton and Hove Albion on Sunday.
