Titans have held virtual meeting with Colorado WR Will Sheppard

The NFL draft is just four days away, and the Tennessee Titans are close to wrapping up all of their pre-draft activities.

While many believe it is a foregone conclusion that Cam Ward will be their top pick, what they do after that selection is anyone’s guess. Tennessee has a lot of holes to fill and limited draft capital to work with. To say they have their work cut out for them is an understatement.

One major area of concern is at wide receiver. The depth behind Calvin Ridley and Van Jefferson is young and unproven, which could limit Ward’s potential success as a rookie. Tennessee has been connected to a few receivers during the process and will select at least one this weekend.

On Saturday night, Aaron Wilson added another potential target to that list with Colorado wide receiver Will Sheppard. Wilson reports that the team had a recent virtual meeting with Sheppard after attending his pro day in Boulder.

The Titans should be familiar with Sheppard, who started his college career at Vanderbilt before transferring to Colorado as a senior. While he was overshadowed by Travis Hunter with the Buffaloes, he has the skills to develop into a dependable NFL receiver. A solid route runner with good hands, he is versatile and can play inside or outside.

Sheppard does lack elite traits and will not wow anyone with his speed or athleticism. But his 6-foot-3 frame and polished skills will make him an attractive target in the middle rounds of the draft. Plus, he does bring some value as a special-teams performer, which should give him a slight bump on draft boards.

With the Titans needing help at the wide receiver position, a versatile receiver such as Sheppard could be in their wheelhouse. General manager Mike Borgonzi has been open about the team’s desire to attack the position during the draft, and adding multiple receivers is not out of the realm of possibility.
