Wisconsin football transfer tight end Lance Mason visit dates

Wisconsin could be closing in on its replacement for starting tight end Tanner Koziol, who transferred to Houston last week. The program is hosting Missouri State transfer Lance Mason on a multi-day visit on Tuesday, April 22, and Wednesday, April 23, according to 247Sports’ Evan Flood.

News of the Badgers’ pursuit of Mason first broke last Thursday, as 247Sports’ Chris Hummer reported that the program was one of three with a visit scheduled, along with Cal and Oklahoma. The specific dates of Mason’s other two trips have yet to be confirmed.

Mason entered the portal last week after three years at Missouri State (Football Championship Subdivision). He broke out in 2024, tallying 34 catches for 590 receiving yards, plus a team-high 17.4 yards per reception and six touchdowns. He concluded that campaign as ProFootballFocus’ highest-graded receiving tight end at the FCS level.

247Sports currently ranks the rising senior as the No. 796 overall transfer and No. 41 tight end in the portal, including the winter window. As of April 21, Mason is the fourth-highest-ranked uncommitted transfer tight end.

Tight end is arguably Wisconsin’s second-biggest roster need at this stage of the offseason. It trails only left tackle, which received a major shake-up earlier this month when starter Kevin Heywood went down with a season-ending ACL injury.

The Badgers have already reshaped their entire starting defense in the transfer portal. Now, with key positions including quarterback, wide receiver and running back in place, it needs a few finishing touches on the offensive side of the football before fall camp arrives.
