Warriors to host Grizzlies in play-in tournament on Tuesday

In an incredibly tight race for the final set of postseason seeding in the Western Conference, it came down to the final day of the regular season to decide who would secure a top-six seed and who would participate in the play-in tournament.

While the Golden State Warriors started Sunday as the No. 6 seed in the West, they needed a win over the Los Angeles Clippers to lock up a top-six seed. Yet, the Warriors couldn’t hold off the Clippers in a thrilling back and forth contest that required overtime, officially sending Steph Curry, Jimmy Butler and Draymond Green to the play-in tournament for the second straight season. With a final record of 48-34, the Warriors finished the season as the No. 7 seed in the West.

With the Warriors falling to the Clippers, Los Angeles locked up the No. 5 seed with the Minnesota Timberwolves earning the No. 6 seed in the West.

With the Warriors officially set for the play-in tournament, they will now prepare to host Ja Morant and the Memphis Grizzlies on Tuesday night at San Francisco’s Chase Center.

The Warriors are 3-1 against the Girrlzies this season, including a 134-124 win in Memphis two weeks ago. Curry dropped a red-hot 52 points to propel the Warriors past the Grizzlies.

The winner of Tuesday’s contest will become the No. 7 seed in the West and meet the No. 3 seed Houston Rockets in the first round. The loser will get one last chance to lock up a spot in the postseason on Thursday against the winner of the No. 9 Sacramento Kings and No. 10 Dallas Mavericks.

The Warriors will host the Grizzlies at 4:30 p.m. PT on Tuesday at Chase Center.
