Dakota Johnson and Jennifer Lawrence Have Perfected “Smart Casual”

This weekend across New York City, buzzy restaurants were filled with celebrities. Downtown, Taylor Swift hit up her favorite hotspot Via Carota, while uptown, Amal and George Clooney dined at Polo Bar. (Clearly, scoring a hard reservation is no issue when you’re A-lister.) If that weren’t enough excitement, Jennifer Lawrence and Dakota Johnson also stepped out for dinner last night. The restaurant? Unclear. But what is clear is that their complementary going-out looks were on point. The friends perfected “smart casual,” choosing stealthy-chic outfits that were ready for business.

Do we think the two BFFs called each other beforehand to make sure their fashions were in sync? Doubtful, but they still embodied the same sartorial vibe. The looks were polished and professional, but in a more effortless (less corporate) way.

Johnson sported an oversized brown blazer with a silky black top and billowy gray trousers. Her leather penny loafers fit the tailored brief, while her bright red bag by The Row offered a pop of color. Lawrence, meanwhile, chose a structured black overcoat that was the focal point of her ensemble—punctuated by a brown alligator Lady bag by The Row.

Given the two stars basically run Hollywood at this point, it was only natural that they dressed the part. Together, they looked like they were heading into an important business meeting, not just dinner. But in New York, everything is a runway—even when you are simply going out to grab pasta.
