Indianapolis Colts pick S Kareem Jackson in PFF’s 2010 NFL redraft

In PFF’s 2010 NFL redraft, who did the Indianapolis Colts end up picking this time?

Using hindsight and their grading system, Pro Football Focus has redrafted the first round of the 2010 NFL draft. So, who did the Indianapolis Colts come away with this time?

Following a Super Bowl loss in 2009, the Colts held the 31st overall pick in this draft and originally selected TCU defensive end Jerry Hughes. But this time, PFF had the Colts picking safety Kareem Jackson, who originally was taken at 20th overall in the actual 2010 draft by Houston, but he was now available in this redraft.

“Jackson took a year or two to find his footing in the NFL, but from 2012 through 2020, he recorded an 87.3 PFF overall grade and an elite 90.0 PFF coverage grade with Houston and Denver,” wrote PFF.

Jackson has had a long NFL career, still appearing in two games last season with the Buffalo Bills. He’s appeared in 205 games over his 15 NFL seasons, which includes 193 starts.

Jackson has had good ball production in his career, which includes generating 18 interceptions in his first 10 seasons, along with 98 pass deflections during that span, with five seasons where he recorded at least 10. Jackson has also had seven seasons where he’s made at least 70 tackles.

Hughes, the Colts’ original pick, ended up going 21st overall to the Bengals in PFF’s redraft. Hughes spent three seasons with the Colts before being traded to Buffalo prior to Year 4.

With Indianapolis, he appeared in 40 games and made seven starts, recording five sacks, 62 tackles, and eight tackles for loss. Hughes was still playing in 2024, appearing in seven games with the Texans. For his career, he’s played in 225 games, making 152 starts, while totaling 70 sacks and 484 tackles.

“Hughes didn’t get to play much during his short time in Indianapolis, but his career really took off after he was traded to Buffalo,” PFF wrote. “He spent nine seasons there and recorded a 90.2 PFF pass-rush grade. He is also the only Bills defensive lineman in PFF history to record a 90.0-plus single-season PFF pass-rush grade, having done so in 2018.”
