The Cord Necklace Is the ’90s Jewelry Trend Having a Major Revival

As for myself? I, too, fancy a cord necklace, especially in the summer, and have indulged in the trend with corded medallions from Taylor Sade’s Vertigo, stone chokers from Nuri Studios, and Heaven Mayhem’s adjustable Julia necklace (which I shamelessly own in three colors).

One look around our office and it’s obvious that cord necklaces are well-loved. Maybe it’s the ease in which they instantly upgrade an outfit that makes these ’90s inspired necklaces so popular or the undisputed fact that boho—à la Chloe and Isabel Marant–is back. Perhaps, it’s the accessibility and versatility of cord necklaces, which exist at virtually every price point, length, and color way under the sun.

Then again, part of their appeal is that cord necklaces are a bit paradoxical. The juxtaposition of a precious chunk of gold on a thin, barely-there piece of string makes fine jewelry feel grounded and accessible, yet a cord necklace can also transform earthy materials, like raw stones and natural shells, into adornments that look elevated, expensive, and at times, even delicate.

To participate in the summer trend seen ’round the Vogue office, keep scrolling and shop some of the best cord necklaces on the market today.

If you want something with an earthier feel, turn to one of Vertigo’s stone pendants. If you’re looking for a necklace with maximum sparkle, try testing out one of Dorsey’s newest paracords.
