The Philadelphia 76ers will look to make the right decision on draft night on Wednesday. Following a miserable 24-58 season, the Sixers will look to add a talented young piece to the roster with the No. 3 overall pick. There are a number of options they can look at in order to build a roster to contend for a title.
With the No. 3 pick, the Sixers can look at Rutgers star Ace Bailey, Baylor’s VJ Edgecombe, Texas’ Tre Johnson, or one of Duke’s Kon Knueppel and Khaman Maluach in a trade-down option. Either way, the Sixers will be adding a talented player in what is expected to be a deep class rich with talent.
A mock draft performed by CBS Sports has the Sixers selecting Edgecombe with the No. 3 pick:
Given that Ace Bailey reportedly canceled his workout with the 76ers, it could make taking Edgecombe an even easier proposition. He’s a two-way perimeter talent who is widely regarded as a top-5 prospect in the class. Edgecombe’s athleticism and motor were on display at Baylor, where he shined as an electric transition finisher and active perimeter defender. He can play on or off the ball, and his 3-point shooting improved dramatically to 39.1% during Big 12 play. He’s great at getting to the rim in half-court sets, but he did struggle to finish at times. If Edgecombe can learn to rely on a solid runner and lean some on a floater, he could be an offensive maestro.
Edgecombe averaged 15.0 points, 5.6 rebounds, 3.2 assists, and 2.1 steals in the 2024-25 season at Baylor. He has a lot of skills that translate to the next level with his ability to wreak havoc on defense and get out in transition next to Tyrese Maxey and Jared McCain. Philadelphia can have a faster team in 2025-26 led by the younger players. He can also stick an open 3 which helps on the spacing aspect for Joel Embiid and Paul George to operate.
