The Detroit Pistons were busy on the first night of NBA free agency as they made two key moves.

Detroit began by re-signing center Paul Reed to a new two-year contract and they then landed veteran guard Caris LeVert on a two-year, $29 million contract.

Of course, the Pistons also have some key free agents of their own that they could elect to bring back in Dennis Schroder, Malik Beasley and Tim Hardaway Jr.

For Schroder, it was reported on Monday night by The Athletic’s Fred Katz that he will agree to sign a contract with the Sacramento Kings in free agency, though it has not become official quite yet.

This is reportedly due to Pistons potentially working on a sign-and-trade deal with the Kings that would land them a key player in return.

According to NBA insider Jake Fischer, an option has emerged for the Pistons that would send Malik Monk to Detroit in a potential sign-and-trade deal with would send Schroder to the Kings.

An emerging option for the Pistons, sources say, is Detroit trading for Kings guard Malik Monk. Sounds like there’s a chance this deal, if agreed to, could turn into a sign-and-trade that brings Dennis Schroder to Sacramento.

This would be a solid move by the Pistons and one that would likely result in them letting both Beasley and Hardway Jr. walk, though they could still elect to bring one of them back.

For Monk, he has been in trade rumors over the last few weeks and with the Kings in desperate need of a point guard, they may have to move him to Detroit if they want to sign Schroder.

Monk would be a great addition to the Pistons, especially on the offensive side, as he would bring a spark either off the bench or in the starting lineup next to Cade Cunningham.

The 27-year-old guard is coming off arguably the best season of his career in which he averaged a career-high 17.2 points and 5.6 assists per game.

By landing Monk, the Pistons would add another sharpshooter to their roster as they try to take advantage of a weakened Eastern Conference next season to try and compete for a title.
