Free agent QB Aaron Rodgers doesn’t list Saints among interested team

The New Orleans Saints appear to have steered clear of the Aaron Rodgers fiasco rollercoaster sweepstakes. Rodgers joined the Pat McAfee show, detailed his exit from the New York Jets and revealed the teams he’s had conversations with. The Saints were not one of them.

Rodgers revealed he’s talked to the New York Giants, Minnesota Vikings and Pittsburgh Steelers. The lack of conversation between Rodgers and the Saints may mean more than simply the Saints are out on him. The Saints may be out on all veteran quarterbacks.

Derek Carr’s injury pushes Spencer Rattler to the front of the quarterback room, especially because Derek seems content in California visiting Fresno State and doing ‘Carr’ reviews. Carr could be out for the season. Making an addition to the position group would make sense, and Rodgers is one of the top quarterbacks available in a dried up market. The Saints aren’t even exploring the option.

Possibly, the drama circling Derek Carr is enough drama for the team at quarterback. Rodgers naturally comes with a ton of off-the-field conversations. Conversely, it likely is another sign of the Saints’ commitment to addressing quarterback in the NFL draft.

The Saints have done their due dilligence on the incoming rookies. That was the best avenue if Carr was healthy and it seems to be their preferred avenue now as well. The end of the first round or beginning of the second round seems like the sweet spot they’d try to address the position. New Orleans could come back after the draft to grab a veteran quarterback. If they do decide to go that route, they should still steer clear of Rodgers. There is too much that surrounds the player, and it doesn’t outweigh what you’re getting on the field at this point in his career.
