Commanders held virtual visit with Ohio State All-American OL

With the 2025 NFL draft just a week away, every NFL team is cramming as many evaluations, meetings, and workouts into their schedules as possible. The same is true for the Washington Commanders as they assess the draft class to find players who fit their areas of need.

One of the areas the Commanders have focused on is the offensive line. They traded for Laremy Tunsil to provide Jayden Daniels with added protection, but they might not be done, as they have recently visited with Ohio State center Seth McLaughlin.

Despite tearing his Achilles tendon in the middle of November, McLaughlin bolstered the Ohio State offensive line so much that he still won the Rimington Trophy, awarded to the top center in college football. The offensive line that saw running backs gain 4.19 yards per carry in 2023 was suddenly increased to 5.25 yards per carry with McLaughlin at center.

The Commanders currently have two former Wisconsin players at center in Tyler Biadasz and Michael Deiter. Deiter joined the Commanders this offseason as a free agent, signing a one-year deal. Biadasz joined the Commanders in 2024 and will become an unrestricted free agent in 2027.

McLaughlin is still recovering from his Achilles injury and likely won’t be available for the start of the season in 2025 anyway, so Washington could look at him as a future starter and work to help him heal appropriately. Giving him the time in the locker room to learn from the older guys and beginning to build that bond with Jayden Daniels is a solid way to plan for the future.
