Having thought about the upcoming draft every day for the last month, I am frankly tired of it.

I will be glad when the draft is concluded and the Washington Commanders have submitted all of their moves so that I can move on forward to something else.

You watch one mock draft, and Jalon Walker is said to be a stud who will be drafted inside the top 10. You watch another, and Walker is said to be a player without a full-time position in the NFL, so he could fall all the way to the Commanders at 29.

Walker is said to be too small to be a full-time defensive end and too inexperienced to transition to linebacker in the NFL. Secondly, he is said to be an excellent pass rusher; however, too small to be an effective defensive end against the run.

Does this sound familiar to you, Commanders fans? The Commanders were glad to get 10.5 sacks from Dante Fowler in 2024. But when watching enough tape in the offseason of Fowler not playing the run well, the Commanders simply let Fowler go free, as he signed with the Cowboys.

Comparisons have been made that Walker is this year's Micah Parsons because of his pass-rushing ability and lack of size. However, if Walker could fall to 29, then that tells me many NFL coaches, scouts and general managers realize Walker is not as explosive as the elite pass rusher Parsons.

Yet, the Commanders do need a pass rusher, and they are not drafting in the top ten, but rather way down at 29. This means that, over the past week, every single time I've heard or read a mock draft referencing the Commanders' need for a pass rusher, the choices have been "guys who may fall to them at 29," with one exception.

Shemar Stewart (Texas A&M) was superman at the Combine, but so unproductive in college, he could still be there for the Commanders. James Pearce Jr. (Tennessee) this week was said to be a great option at 29, but in the same mock draft, one said there was absolutely no way Dan Quinn or Adam Peters would take the risk and select Pearce because of his immaturity.

The one exception I mentioned above? Boston College defensive end Donovan Ezeiruaku. His pass-rushing skills sound like Dante Fowler; however, so do his abilities in defending against the run.

I don't have any idea what the Commanders will do at No. 29 next week, but I do know I'm so overloaded with the draft that it won't surprise me if I dream about it for the next few nights.

The draft can't come soon enough…
