Bruno Henrique of Flamengo charged, faces possible 2️⃣-year ban

The Prosecutor’s Office of the Superior Court of Sports Justice (STJD) charged Bruno Henrique, Flamengo’s forward, with match-fixing this Friday (1).

Information from the portal Uol.

He risks being suspended for up to two years for deliberately getting a yellow card in a match against Santos in the 2023 Brasileirão.

There is no date yet for the trial.

The charge includes evidence from the criminal case against Bruno Henrique, which, according to attached conversation screenshots, shows he clearly informed his brother Wander Nunes Pinto Junior when he would receive the card that would suspend him.

Wander then confirms he will place bets on a betting site after receiving such insider information.

Bruno Henrique was charged based on two articles of the Brazilian Code of Sports Justice (CBJD): 243 (1st paragraph) and 243-A.

Article 243 addresses “deliberately acting in a way that harms the team you defend.” There is an aggravation for having gained financial advantage. The prescribed punishment ranges from 360 to 720 days.

The second article refers to “acting contrary to sports ethics, with the aim of influencing the result of a match, event, or equivalent.” The penalty ranges from 12 to 24 matches.

There is a possibility that the 34-year-old player may face a preventive suspension requested by Luis Otávio Veríssimo Teixeira, the president of the STJD.

Bruno Henrique was preserved in the match against Atlético-MG last Thursday (31). He is expected to return to Flamengo’s starting lineup on Sunday (3), against Ceará.
