Windsor (Colo.) four-star offensive tackle Deacon Schmitt has established himself as one of the best linemen in the state of Colorado’s rising senior class. The 6-foot-5, 310-pound standout committed to Oklahoma in June and, with the recruiting process in his rearview mirror, Schmitt has been attacking the offseason ahead of senior campaign.
Monday afternoon, Schmitt posted a video on social media showcasing his gains in the weight room. Schmitt is shown in the video squatting 500 pounds for four reps.
Last season as a junior, Schmitt paved the way for a Windsor run game that totaled 2,972 yards and 43 touchdowns on the ground. The Wizards finished the 2024 season at 10-2, bowing out of the CHSAA’s Class 3A playoffs in the quarterfinal round.
Schmitt committed to Oklahoma on June 28 and talked about about his strong bond with the coaching staff, including Sooners’ offensive line coach Bill Bedenbaugh.
“Coach B’s obviously one of the best developers in college football,” Schmitt told OUInsider. “We watched a bunch of film and went through the playbook, that kind of thing. And after that meeting, I went with just my parents, my sister and my agent… and we went into his office and watched some of my film and broke it down a little bit. So you know, Bedenbaugh knows the mental side of the game. He’s been coaching offensive line forever, and he’s been coaching at OU for thirteen seasons. He just knows the game, and that’s just kind of the biggest piece for me. He reads everything, and I need that. I need someone that can teach me how to do that kind of thing. So I love Coach B, and the whole vibe there is awesome.”
The four-star prospect is the top prospect in Colorado and No. 295 nationwide in the Rivals Industry Rankings. Schmitt chose the Sooners over offers from Alabama, Kansas State, Nebraska, Tennessee and others.
