Willy Chavarria to Release Adidas Sneaker Huarache Hybrid

Willy Chavarria unveiled a forthcoming silhouette from the Adidas Originals x Willy Chavarria collaboration, the Chavarria Oaxaca slip-on, creating a new lane of the ever-growing list of hybrid shoes.

The designer debuted the shoe during a panel hosted by adidas Originals at the Museo de Arte de Puerto Rico. During the conversation, Chavarria shared that Oaxaca was inspired by the huarache, a classic Mexican sandal that has transcended generations and evolved into a staple of Chicano street style.

Reimagining the timeless huarache silhouette, Chavarria elevated it with an intricately woven upper made of premium leather. The shoe was created in a slip-on sneaker style with an open toe. The shoes were modeled with long, white socks in the campaign fronted by Mexican artist Berth Oh and photographed by Marco Ovando.

The design also incorporates a thick, exaggerated sneaker sole with functional grip. The trail-inspired outsole gives the shoe a bit of an edge, with the chunky sole giving it the appearance of a modern sneaker. The sole also features a stamped Adidas logo on the side, and Willy Chavarria’s name is found on the back of the shoe and within the interior alongside a holographic gold Adidas logo. No details have been shared as of yet regarding the shoe’s release, except the designer shared the photos on Instagram with a caption reading, “Soon.”

The panel discussion, which the designer did alongside Adidas archival specialist Sandra Trapp, Originals design director Rafael Mayorga, and director of storytelling Valentina Benitez Castellano, delved into the intersection of heritage and innovation, focusing on how the brand continues to deliver meaningful and authentic collaborations by developing a deep understanding for their collaborators’ cultures and their rich history.

Chavarria’s debut collaboration with Adidas was first seen on his spring 2025 runway show in New York in September. The first drop of the collection was released in May. Their collaboration pays homage to Chicano culture, combined with the designer’s signature bold and oversize silhouettes.

The event also brought the Adidas para Bad Bunny archive to life in Puerto Rico as part of the brand’s continued celebration of its partnership with the artist, as he celebrates his “No Me Quiero Ir De Aquí” residency in the Caribbean island.

On Saturday, more than 9,000 fans gathered on San Juan’s Puente Dos Hermanos to witness Puerto Rico’s first Formula 1 demo run, led by Adidas Originals and the Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 Team. Mercedes F1 driver Esteban Gutiérrez led a sequence of burnouts and stunts before fans were invited to a curated exhibit of racing suits and gear from the Mercedes archives.
