What EFL is live on Sky Sports+ this weekend?

Fri Aug 22

  • Derby County vs Bristol City, 8pm (also on Sky Sports Football)

Derby County are still pointless as they head into Friday night’s game, and the concern is goal leakage – with eight shipped so far. At least three more than any other side in the Championship after two games. Bristol City, who tore apart Sheffield United on opening day, followed that up with a goalless draw at home to Charlton last weekend.

David Prutton’s prediction from the Essential EFL podcast…

“I thought Derby’s loss to Coventry was frustrating. They fought back to lead, but still looked too open as Coventry pulled away. Bristol City impressed me on the opening day under Gerhard Struber and a goalless draw against Charlton is still a decent result.

“Derby’s issue is defensive lapses rather than a lack of goals, and I see it as early-season teething problems. With an experienced manager they will improve. I’ll go for a 2-2.”

  • CH: Charlton vs Leicester (also on SSF), Hull vs Blackburn, Swansea vs Watford

It has been a hugely positive start to life back in the Championship for Charlton Athletic, with four points from their first two games. They may have scored just once, but still haven’t conceded under Nathan Jones. They will fancy their chances against a Leicester City side who haven’t quite got going yet under Marti Cifuentes. They found a way past beleaguered Sheffield Wednesday on opening day, but they were then beaten at Preston last time out.

David Prutton’s prediction on Charlton vs Leicester from the Essential EFL podcast…

“This is a game Nathan Jones and his team will relish. We saw that wonderful last-minute winner on the opening weekend which sent The Valley absolutely delirious. It was always a brilliant place to play, very vocal and exuberant, and I think Charlton will really try to harness that energy this season.

“Leicester are a funny one at the moment. They have a ridiculously talented young striker scoring goals, but there is still so much debate and uncertainty off the pitch about players coming and going. In contrast Charlton feel more settled to me, and I have got a strong feeling about them at home in this one. I am going for a narrow Charlton 1-0 win.”

Hull City will be pleased with how things have gone so far under their new boss, Sergej Jakirovic – with four points from their first two games, and a cracking late win over Oxford last time out. They host a Blackburn Rovers side yet to pick up a point.

Swansea City and Watford both got off the mark last weekend with their first points wins of the season, as they prepare to clash in South Wales.

  • L1: Luton vs Cardiff, Rotherham vs Wigan

Luton Town bounced back from their first defeat of the season at the weekend to beat Wigan in midweek, while Cardiff City remain unbeaten so far. Three wins and a draw for Brian Barry-Murphy’s team, heading into this clash of two relegated sides.

Rotherham United have endured a mixed start so far with just three points on the board. Although they have played a game less than the others. For Wigan Athletic it is two wins, two defeats.

  • L2: Newport vs MK Dons, Walsall vs Salford

Newport County have just one win so far from their opening four games, while much-fancied MK Dons are still unbeaten as they prepare to visit Rodney Parade. Albeit they have drawn two of their first four.

Walsall are two wins and two defeats for the season as they prepare to host a Salford City side who have nine points from their first four games.
