With Agency Spotlight, we’re featuring the independent PR and marketing agencies that Fashionista loves to work with. Meet the hardworking professionals behind them and discover what it really takes to make it in fashion publicity.

Everyone’s NYC fashion bestie, Lindsey Solomon, 33, quickly earned a bright reputation in the industry. The Long Island native studied communications at NYU and worked at an agency for five years before COVID hit.

“I was looking for my next step in my career,” he recalls. “I really started my company, Lindsey Media, out of my apartment. I sat and made a list of brands I felt inspired by as well as writers, stylists and people I met throughout the years that I thought would be interesting to partner with. For about a month or so, I took meetings nonstop, and from there my business was born.”

Solomon’s long list of clients include indie darlings like Presley Oldham, Wiederhoeft, Collina Strada, Allina Liu, Dauphinette, Caroline Zimbalist, Ming Yu Wang and more.

Lindsey Media has been entirely self-funded and Solomon says clever budgeting is his key: “I think the biggest lesson I’ve learned is being mindful of my expenses. It’s very easy to get caught up in the cycle of overnighting packages, messengers, etc. I’ve learned to be more task oriented and putting policies in place to ensure that I’m not bleeding money.”

Like many self-employed grinders, he’s thankful to be his own boss but doesn’t minimize the downsides. “I’m so proud of what I’ve accomplished, but running my agency has been very taxing. You’re constantly just on, and there’s little boundary between work and pleasure. I still struggle with taking vacation or being OOO simply because there’s always something to do.”

Solomon’s success also lies in being fully available to his clients. “I offer individualized attention that a larger agency might not be able to offer,” he explains. “You have to meet your clients where they’re at and how they communicate, so I find a lot of the reason why my clients enjoy working with me is my ability to provide transparency in my work, but also creating a productive work environment.”
