Indiana basketball will once again open its season tune-ups with a familiar foe.
For the fourth straight year, the Hoosiers are set to host Marian in an exhibition contest, scheduled for Friday, Oct. 17 at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall, the program announced Thursday. Tipoff time and television details will be released later.
The matchup falls on IU’s Homecoming weekend, with Indiana football hosting Michigan State the following day.

The Hoosiers have handled the Knights convincingly in recent years, including a 94-61 win in 2023 and a 106-64 victory in 2024. Since 2004, Indiana is 32-0 in exhibition games against non-Division I opponents and 4-0 all-time against Marian.
Marian, an NAIA program based in Indianapolis, is led by head coach Pat Knight, the son of legendary IU coach Bob Knight and a former Hoosier guard himself. Last year, Knight memorably kissed the Assembly Hall floor before tipoff. Former IU star Steve Downing, who played under Bob Knight, serves as Marian’s athletic director.
The Knights went 11-17 in Knight’s first season at the helm and return with a roster that features 14 Indiana natives, including Luke Lindeman, son of former Hoosier center Todd Lindeman — who once shared the court in Bloomington with Pat Knight.

This will be the first season under new Indiana head coach Darian DeVries, who inherits a completely rebuilt roster of 13 scholarship newcomers. The Hoosiers will also play at least one additional exhibition game before officially tipping off the regular season Nov. 5 against Alabama A&M.
