Legendary Florida Gators receiver Chris Doering, who today is a college football analyst for ESPN/SEC Network, is a fan of the talent currently on the UF roster.

“This is the most talented team that Gators coach Billy Napier has had,” Doering told Gators Online. “It’s probably one of the most talented teams they’ve had maybe even dating back to some of the Will Muschamp teams. But I think the thing that stood out to me the most, first spring practice I went to in March, [it was] the line of scrimmage. The offensive and defensive lines looked more like Alabama and Georgia’s offensive lines. Certainly have closed the gap considerably between those top-tier programs and what we’ve had here in the past.”

Doering joined Gators Online on Sunday night to talk about the Gators’ 2025 outlook and shared his thoughts on a range of subjects [watch the video above]. Here’s a quick rundown of what he covered:

Chris Doering said the Gators have a winner in DJ Laway

—[1:50 mark]: Doering talked at length about all the things Florida quarterback DJ Lagway brings to the table. And, he discussed his concerns about the time Lagway lost during the offseason while he was injured. He loves Lagway’s ability and his leadership—and he said Lagway’s best trait might be that he makes those around him lift their games. Doering thinks Lagway has the potential to someday be a Heisman Trophy contender.

—[10:40]: Doering said if there was one thing he’d like to see from the 2025 Gators it’s four-receiver and even five-receiver formations to take advantage of Lagway’s arm and all the talent at receiver. He think it would be difficult to stop.

—[12:00]: Chris talked about his 8-4 prediction for the Gators, but it sounded like he might want to adjust Florida’s win total up. And for what it’s worth, he predicted the Gators will pull off two massive wins this season.
