Countdown to Kickoff 2025: 3 days until Horned Frog Football!

The TCU Horned Frogs are less than 30 days from kicking off the 2025 football season with a nonconference road matchup against the North Carolina Tar Heels and new head coach Bill Belichick. As we count down the days until kickoff, we’ll highlight a former (or current) Horned Frog whose jersey number represents the number of days left until the opener.

3 – Tejay Johnson (Safety – 2007-10)

A native of Garland, Texas, Johnson played four years of football for the Horned Frogs, finishing his career with 179 total tackles, 7.5 tackles for loss and one sack along with 23 pass breakups, seven interceptions and five forced fumbles over 50 games played. One of four true freshmen to see game action during the 2007 season, Johnson became a full-time starter at weak safety as a sophomore in 2008, tying for second on the team with 11 pass breakups. Johnson, who had six tackles in TCU’s Poinsettia Bowl win over Boise State, snagged three picks during the 2009 season, when he earned Second-Team All-MWC honors.

Johnson ascended to First-Team All-MWC and All-American status as a senior in 2010, when he posted a career-high 66 total tackles and added seven pass breakups with three interceptions. Johnson was all over the field during TCU’s Rose Bowl win against Wisconsin, totaling a season-high 10 tackles. Despite concluding his TCU career as an All-American, Johnson opted to put his playing career aside in favor of teaching and coaching. Johnson, who earned his degree in Habilitation of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing and graduated in May 2012, took a teaching and coaching position in Arlington in 2014. The Fort Worth Star-Telegram published an article in 2018 about Johnson’s life after college football.
