Highlights! Craig Jones Sleeps Short-Notice Sonnen In Seconds … Twice!

Craig Jones vs. Chael Sonnen faced off earlier tonight (Sun. Aug. 31, 2025) live on Youtube inside Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas, Nevada. In an outcome that surprised absolutely nobody, Jones was able to submit Sonnen in fairly short fashion.

Oh yeah, 2012 meme rapper Riff Raff was there also.

In Sonnen’s defense, the former UFC title challenger was never going to provide much of a challenge. He’s a great wrestler, but he was facing a jiu-jitsu ace in his rule set. Really, Sonnen was doing Jones a favor by showing up to save the main event after Olympic gold medalist Gable Steveson sabotaged the show with his late withdrawal.

As for the action itself, there’s not much to talk about here. Jones offered Sonnen an easy takedown, and the wrestler took it right away, landing in side control after a brief re-roll attempt from Jones. Immediately, Jones attacked with a buggy choke and began to squeeze after a few seconds of adjustment. Jones let go of the submission himself, revealing an apparently sleeping Sonnen.

The duo opted to wrestle again after the quick finish … and Jones quickly found another buggy choke! Sonnen called for best three out of five, but alas, the main event was at its end.

Check out the highlight clips below:

It’s not the main event Craig Jones or CJI fans were hoping for, but it nevertheless managed to entertain for its brief duration. Sonnen is a pro wrestler at heart after all! After the official announcement, the crowd tried to call for Gabi Garcia vs. Sonnen, which sadly did not happen.
