Thomas Dimitroff hired by New Orleans Saints

Ex-Falcons GM Thomas Dimitroff helped Atlanta reach the Super Bowl in 2016.

The New Orleans Saints are hiring former Atlanta Falcons general manager Thomas Dimitroff to a consultant role, according to a report from NFL insider Albert Breer. Dimitroff led Atlanta’s front office from 2008 through 2020, including the team’s Super Bowl appearance in 2016.

The former Falcons GM has been unable to find work in the NFL since he was fired midway through the 2020 season. Dimitroff spent over three years as the CEO of SumerSports but left back in April to focus on NFL jobs.

Highlights from Dimitroff’s tenure in Atlanta were drafting quarterback Matt Ryan, wide receiver Julio Jones and cornerback A.J. Terrell. On the flip side, some of his notable misses were drafting Takk McKinley over T.J. Watt in 2017 and overpaying for edge Dante Fowler as a last-ditch effort in 2020.

According to Breer, Dimitroff will help Saints general manager Mickey Loomis “in all facets,” but the move hasn’t officially been announced yet.

Dimitroff and former Falcons head coach Dan Quinn were both let go by team owner Arthur Blank after going 0-5 to start the 2020 season. Raheem Morris was named the interim head coach for the rest of the season, leading the team to a 4-7 record over the final 11 games.

Quinn went back to being a defensive coordinator for multiple years before landing the Washington Commanders head-coaching gig in 2024. Dimitroff has interviewed for several other NFL front office jobs over the last few years.

Now the former Falcons general manager has joined Atlanta’s biggest rival just in time for the 2025 season. The two NFC South foes will face off in Week 12, and again in Week 18 to close out the season.
