

Yankees prospect Spencer Jones talks torpedo bats, plate consistency
Spencer Jones, the Yankees’ No. 6 prospect according to Baseball America, will be the big name to watch in Somerset to begin the 2025 season.

BOUND BROOK — The 2025 Somerset County Tournament was seeded Wednesday evening during a meeting of coaches at Bound Brook High School and the undefeated reigning state Group 4 champion Watchung Hills High School softball team was awarded the No. 1 seed.
The Warriors fell to Immaculata in last year’s final. The Spartans were awarded the No. 6 seed.
The top 4 seeds have a double bye into the quarterfinals, with the No. 5 through No. 9 seeds off until the second round.
The tournament begins Saturday with first-round games, with the second round scheduled to be played by May 3. The quarterfinals are set for May 10, the semifinals are Wednesday, May 14 – all at the higher seed — with the final Friday night, May 16 at Torpey Field in Bridgewater.

9-Bernards at 8-Somerville second round, winner at 1-Watchung Hills
13-Rutgers Prep at 12- Bound Brook winner at 5-Gill St. Bernard’s, winner at 4-Ridge
14-Manville at 11-Franklin, winner at 6-Immaculata, winner at 3-Bridgewater-Raritan
15-Montgomery at 10- Hillsborough, winner at 7-Mount St. Mary, winner at 2-PIngry
