Jacob Modleski had a crazy 24 hours.
The junior at Notre Dame competed this past weekend in the 50th Walker Cup, going 2-1 while winning both of his matches Sunday at Cypress Point, including the anchor match in singles, to help the USA secure its fifth straight win in the competition. His match ended about 7:10 p.m. PDT. Then, there was the closing ceremony and celebration with his captain and teammates in the team room.
But the celebration was over quickly for Modleski. He had another tournament to play in halfway across the country.
Modleski left the Monterey Peninsula at 9:35 p.m. PDT Sunday night and flew to Muskegen County Airport in Michigan, close to the site of the 2025 Folds of Honor Collegiate, at 4:32 a.m. EDT. At 2:06 p.m. Monday, he teed off in the first tournament of his junior year.
That’s commitment.
Modleski shot 1-over 71 on Monday at American Dunes in Grand Haven, Michigan, which is T-13 in the individual competition. Notre Dame is tied for first with Alabama in the team competition.
Notre Dame coach John Handrigan was also taking in the action at Cypress Point, so it’s likely the duo flew to Michigan together to open the 2025-26 season.
Modleski is a Golfweek preseason first-team All-American for the Fighting Irish, and his commitment to his college team after one of the biggest weekends of his life shows why.
