Although the Green Bay Packers only held a walk-through practice on Tuesday, Matt LaFleur’s team was without two starting offensive linemen for the second consecutive day during the leadup to Thursday night’s showdown with the Washington Commanders. Right tackle Zach Tom (oblique) and left guard Aaron Banks (ankle, groin) were listed as “did not participate” on Tuesday’s injury report, the second of Week 2.
Both Tom and Banks were injured during the second half of the Packers’ win over the Detroit Lions on Sunday and did not return. Tom fell hard to the ground during a negated interception return, while Banks appeared to get rolled up on from behind to end a run play.
Against the Lions, the Packers used a combination of Darian Kinnard (15 snaps) and rookie Anthony Belton (three snaps) to replace Tom at right tackle and Jordan Morgan (five snaps) to replace Banks at left guard. If both Tom and Banks can’t play, the starting offensive line would likely be (from left to right): Rasheed Walker, Morgan, Elgton Jenkins, Sean Rhyan and one of Kinnard or Belton.
The Packers were also without defensive end Brenton Cox Jr. (groin) and cornerback Bo Melton (shoulder) for the second straight day, suggesting both are in a danger of missing Week 2.
There was some good news on Tuesday’s injury report. Rookie Matthew Golden was upgraded to a full participant, suggesting his ankle injury won’t affect his availability for Thursday, while receiver Jayden Reed (foot) and linebacker Quay Walker (quad) were both upgraded to limited participants.
The Packers will provide a final injury report with status designations on Wednesday. It would be a long list considering only three of the 14 players listed on Tuesday’s injury report were full participants.
The Commanders gave several veteran players a rest day on Tuesday, while punter Tress Way was a limited participant during the walk-through.
