Harlem's Fashion Row Celebrates Haitian Creativity at its 2025 Style Awards and Runway Show

All true fashion insiders know that New York Fashion Week starts days before the official calendar kicks off. Among the list of this season’s pre-NYFW festivities was Harlem’s Fashion Row’s 18th annual Runway Show and Style Awards, which it held on Tuesday at Cipriani Wall Street.

This year’s theme was titled “At The Table,” celebrating the community of Black creatives who are innovators and visionaries, despite working in an industry that hardly invited BIPOC talent to a seat at the table. Among the crowd of press, stylists, designers, executives and tastemakers were cultural figures like Dapper Dan, Slick Rick and Keri Hilson.

The evening kicked off with an opening performance by the Alvin Ailey dancers, followed by an awards ceremony: Marie Claire’s Editor-in-Chief Nikki Ogunnaike accepted Editor of the Year; Jason Bolden received Stylist of the Year; costume designer Ruth Carter won the Anne Lowe Maverick Award; Pattern Beauty’s Co-CEO, Christiane Pendarvis, took home the Impact Award; and The Virgil Abloh Award went to Usher.

Afterward, HFR staged its runway portion, featuring the work of LaTouché, Atelier Ndigo by Waina Chancy and Daveed Baptiste — all of whom are of Haitian descent. As such, each collection explored heritage infused with artistry and storytelling.

Atelier Ndigo was inspired by Haiti’s national flower, the hibiscus, as seen through architectural silhouettes shaped like vibrant plants. Daveed Baptiste’s streetwear collection explored themes of immigration, while LaTouché’s designs drew inspiration from Jamcel, Haiti.

“To feature three Haitian designers at once is a groundbreaking moment — a testament to the global impact of Caribbean creativity and to our belief that culture is fashion’s greatest innovator,” Brandice Daniel, CEO and Founder of Harlem’s Fashion Row, said in a press statement.
