Is Micah Parsons playing this week? Latest news, updates on Packers star's status for Week 2 vs. Commanders
originally appeared on The Sporting News
The Packers made a statement in their win over the Lions in Week 1, shutting down the defending NFC North champions. A full dose of Micah Parsons is set to make Green Bay's defense even scarier.
Parsons saw limited action in Week 1 after undergoing treatment for a back injury. He still recorded his first sack in green and gold, chasing down Jared Goff, but he wasn't able to handle a full workload.
Now facing a short week, will Parsons be able to suit up against the Commanders in a key NFC prime-time matchup?
Here's what you need to know about Parsons' status for Week 2.

Is Micah Parsons playing this week vs. Commanders?
Parsons is listed as questionable for Thursday night's game against the Commanders, though there is no indication he won't suit up at Lambeau Field.
The 26-year-old played 30 of 67 defensive snaps against the Lions while dealing with a back injury. Considering Parsons was said to have made every effort to play against Detroit in Week 1, he figures to make every effort to play in Week 2 after not suffering any known setback.
Even in limited action, Parsons made a significant impact in Week 1 with a sack as well as a pressure that appeared to force Goff into an interception. Because of the shortened week, Parsons' snap count on Thursday night will be worth monitoring; he will have a longer recovery period before the Packers' Week 3 game against the Browns.

Who is Micah Parsons' backup?
When Parsons wasn't on the field in Week 1, it was often Lukas Van Ness or Kingsley Enagbare lining up on the Packers' defense along with standout edge rusher Rashan Gary. Van Ness played 36 snaps, while Enagbare played 21 snaps.
Van Ness started in place of Parsons against the Lions. It's unclear whether Parsons will make his first start as a Packer, but Van Ness figures to be first in line for opportunities any time Parsons isn't on the field.
A former first-round pick out of Iowa, Van Ness didn't make a start in either of his first two NFL seasons but got on the board with a half-sack in his first career start in Week 1. Enagbare, a former fifth-round pick, is in his fourth season with the Packers and recorded a career-high 4.5 sacks in 2024.
