Since Kyril Louis-Dreyfus got involved in the club, in 2021, there has been a sizable vocal minority questioning his motives and expressing scepticism as to the so-called model employed.
The narrative often expressed was that we were to sell all of our best players to help line the owner’s pockets. Though in reality, the only players who have been sold during Louis-Dreyfus’s tenure have been Ross Stewart (who has played less than ten games for Southampton since his move in September 2023), Jack Clarke, Tommy Watson and Jobe Bellingham. Of those four, possibly the only player you’d want to keep now would be Watson.

The way the club has responded to getting promoted to the Premier League has taken everybody by surprise.

The swift response to being promoted, breaking our incoming transfer record twice, and netting 14 new players who all can be said to be a considerable improvement on what we had before has been impressive.

The club’s parsimonious behaviour in the transfer market hither tohas allowed us the spend with a caviller attitude that most are astonished by.

But haway, the atmosphere at the West Ham and Brentford games will be something I will never forget.
