Florida high school football Week 5: What’s real and what’s not
USA TODAY Florida Network reporters Jon Santucci and Nick Wilson debate the biggest topics after the fifth week of the high school football season.
- IMG Academy remains the unanimous No. 1 team in the USA TODAY Florida Network Super 25 for the fifth straight week.
- The First Academy moved up to No. 6 after defeating Venice in Week 5.
- Choctawhatchee and Atlantic made their debuts on the Super 25 list at No. 21 and No. 25, respectively.
- St. Thomas Aquinas, Chaminade-Madonna, Miami Northwestern, and Miami Central complete the top five ranked teams.
Another week, another clean sweep for IMG Academy.
The Ascenders claimed all eight first-place votes in the USA Today Florida Network Super 25 for the fifth consecutive week.
Playing a Florida opponent for the first time since the preseason, IMG routed previously undefeated Mandarin 55-7 in Week 5. IMG jumped out to a 28-0 lead after the first quarter and never looked back.
St. Thomas Aquinas, Chaminade-Madonna, Miami Northwestern and Miami Central round out the top five. The FIrst Academy moves up to No. 6 after knocking off Venice on the road 21-14 in Week 5.
Choctawhatchee (No. 21) and Atlantic (No. 25) both make thier debut on the list. Choctaw, which dominated Niceville 42-7 in Week 5, already has three shutouts this season. Atlantic scored 24 points in the fourth quarter to beat Miami Norland 43-20 on Sept. 18.
