Milan President Paolo Scaroni reveals that Rossoneri and Inter aim to play their first game at their new stadium in 2030.

Milan and Inter have been given the green light to buy the San Siro area, including the Stadio Meazza, so they are now preparing a project for their new co-owned stadium.

“The goal is to finalise the deed of sale by October, and at that point we’ll make the first payment of €73m,” Scaroni told Milano Finanza.

“From that moment, the detailed design phase of the new stadium can begin. A project we have already entrusted to Norman + Partners and MANICA, two leaders in the field. To see the complete project, it will take between six and eight months.”

Reports in Italy have claimed that the clubs aim to make their debut in their new stadium in 2031, but Scaroni set a different deadline, while confirming that works will begin in 2027.

New Milan and Inter stadium ready in 2030?

“Absolutely, barring minor setbacks, which can always occur in a project of this scale, the goal is to complete the stadium by 2030.”

This means that the first season of Milan and Inter in their new stadium will be 2030-31.

“Ideally, yes. That way, we can complete the necessary testing and bring the facility to full efficiency in time for the 2032 Euros, where it will play a major role,” Scaroni concluded.

When Inter and Milan started sharing the Stadio Meazza

Milan and Inter have been sharing the iconic Stadio Meazza since the 1947-48 season.

The stadium was inaugurated in 1926 with a game between the two Milanese sides, and the Nerazzurri won it 6-3.

Milan will play at San Siro this evening, hosting regional rivals Cremonese, while Milan will visit Juventus in Turin tomorrow, Sunday, October 5.
