MIAMI GARDENS — Miami Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel met with reporters as practice ramped up for the Los Angeles Chargers.

Highlights:

Will Jason Sanders return vs. Chargers?

The Dolphins will be placing CB Cornell Armstrong on injured reserve.

Kicker Jason Sanders is not returning this week.

CB Storm Duck isn’t ready to practice.

WR Cedrick Hill, recently signed off New Orleans’ practice squad, will work today.

McDaniel points out Julian Hill’s strengths

McDaniel said TE Julian Hill does a lot of things that don’t show up on the stat sheet, including blocking.

“For me, he’s a different Julian Hill each year — in a good way.”

What is Justin Hebert’s greatest attributes?

McDaniel praises QB Justin Herbert’s ability to extend plays and make defenses cover the entire field. Naturally, Herbert continues to be compared to Tua Tagovailoa, who was in the same draft class.

“He’s someone that the opposing team is in charge of minimizing his production.”

McDaniel compares him to Bills QB Josh Allen in that it can take more than one player to bring him down.

Who relays defensive signals?

LB Tyrel Dodson is in concussion protocol. He wears the green dot to communicate play calls.

What if he cannot go?

McDaniel indicates it could be Willie Gay or KJ Britt filling in and wearing the green dot. Whoever performs best in practice this week might determine it.

How does Tua Tagovailoa judge his own play?

On how Tagovailoa has handled expectations vs. results:

“One of the reasons I focus on how he handles growth as a quarterback … Bottom line, black and white, you’re always accountable to results.”

McDaniel adds, “He’s experienced as anyone with positive or negative noise. … It’s something that no quarterback in the National Football League is not exposed to.”

McDaniel says when Tagovailoa is “connected to his mechanics he can put the ball wherever he wants to.”
