I would be excited to catch up with Andrea Sachs and the rest of the Runway gang in the hotly anticipated sequel to The Devil Wears Prada even if I didn’t work at, well, Vogue (workplace romans-à-clef? Groundbreaking!), but the news that no less a multihyphenate luminary than Lady Gaga herself has been cast in The Devil Wears Prada 2 has me absolutely frothing at the mouth.
So far, we know that The Devil Wears Prada 2, which is due out on May 1, 2026, will feature the return of Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci, as well as a veritable grab bag of supporting actors, among them Simone Ashley, Lucy Liu, Justin Theroux, B. J. Novak, Pauline Chalamet, Rachel Bloom, Patrick Brammall, comedian Caleb Hearon, and Broadway stars Helen J Shen and Conrad Ricamora. Why not throw Lady Gaga into that potent and sweet-smelling stew of Hollywood talent?
I have absolutely no clue how Lady Gaga will be worked into the plot of the film, which, as far as we currently know, will revolve around Streep’s legendary fashion editor Miranda Priestly dealing with the decline of traditional magazine publishing and facing off against her former assistant Emily Charlton (Blunt), who is now a high-powered luxury group executive. I have to assume that Lady Gaga will be playing herself at some sort of black-tie benefit, or, ahem, museum gala with a capital G, but maybe she’s the new assistant in town? Or Emily’s long-suffering nanny? Or, as one of my colleagues suggested on Slack this morning, will she dust off her House of Gucci-era Italian accent as the editor of Runway Italia? I quite literally cannot wait to find out.
