One of the sneakers worn by Michael Jordan in the 1996 film “Space Jam” is set to return after a 10-year hiatus, but it’s likely not the first pair that comes to mind when fans think of the animated comedy. While the black-and-dark concord Air Jordan 11 Space Jam is the most synonymous shoe with Warner Bros.’ beloved movie, they weren’t the only model Jordan laced up alongside the Looney Tunes.

The White/Black/True Red Air Jordan 9 was also featured in the film, albeit less prominently. Originally released in late 1993, the Chicago Bulls-colored style arrived at retail just after Jordan’s first retirement from the NBA, which happened a month before the launch. Because of this, Jordan never wore the colorway in NBA action, although he did wear a cleated version of a black Air Jordan 9 while playing baseball with the Birmingham Barons.

And while it wasn’t worn by Jordan himself, the Air Jordan 9 was well-represented around the league. Players such as Penny Hardaway, Nick Anderson, Mitch Richmond and Kendall Gill kept the model visible on the court with custom colorways matching their respective teams. Off the court, late rapper Tupac Shakur famously wore the so-called Space Jam colorway.

As for the Space Jam nomenclature, the nickname is a more recent association with the Air Jordan 9. Despite being worn by Jordan briefly in the film, the look didn’t receive the name until Jordan Brand’s 2016 marketing of the retro. Prior to that, retro versions of the colorway were issued in 2010, in 2008 as part of a Countdown Pack alongside the Air Jordan 14 and for the first time in 2002.

According to Sneaker Files and @zsneakerheadz, this Air Jordan 9 Retro OG Space Jam will be released during fall 2026 at a retail price of $215 with a style code of HV4794-106.
