I’m Obsessed With Shoes — & These Fall Trends Are Taking Over My Closet

The heart wants what it wants.

With roughly 50 pairs in my closet — I’ll admit I stopped counting after a certain point — it’s safe to say I’m a little bit obsessed with shoes. The fall runways have done nothing to curb my enthusiasm, offering up a bumper crop of trends like velvety suede and glossy leather, rich colorways from merlot to mocha, along with statement trends like cattle prints and studded hardware. If loving shoes is wrong, I don’t want to be right: These are the pairs taking over my closet.

A Sculptural Knee-High Boot In Croc-Embossed Leather

I’ve been lusting after the Bennidy boot’s sculptural, modern lines with a geometric block heel and snipped square toe from the moment I saw her — especially in this rich wine shade that’s ripe for the season and will pair so well with chocolate brown, gray, or navy.

Chic Sneakers In The Color Of The Season

The Coach Soho sneaker is sporty without being athletic — perfect for running around the city between appointments when I need more support than a flat or a loafer. I’ll pair mine with denim and a trench coat to keep the vibe elevated yet casual.

A Chunky Platform Mule That Looks Impossibly Luxe

I love how over-the-top these Nike mules are — and they’re awfully reminiscent of a Prada pair I’ve spotted, but about one-tenth the price. With a classic loafer-like upper and chunky foam platform, they might be the ultimate TSA-friendly travel shoe. (And you can wear them straight to a meeting if you have to.)

Stiletto Booties In Fall’s Must-Have Texture

These Reiss booties are what I’m wearing with all my extra-long jeans and trousers this season, but you might consider spotlighting their flared stiletto heel with a midi skirt instead. While suede is currently the season’s must-have texture, it’s ultimately so timeless that you’ll wear these for years to come.

  • Available sizes: 5 — 10
  • Available colors: 2

A Classic Loafer In An Of-The-Moment Print

I already have plenty of classic loafers, which makes this pair in an on-trend cow print (stay with me) so appealing — they put a cheeky high-fashion spin on the quiet luxury silhouette, and the motif is abstract enough that I’ll look forward to pulling them out next year as well.

  • Available sizes: 4 — 14
  • Available colors: 94

Quite Possibly The Sexiest Heels I’ve Ever Seen

Between the innately revealing nature of a d’Orsay pump and that serpentine curve on the heel — faintly reminiscent of the Louboutin Hot Chicks, by the way — these stilettos might be the sexiest shoes I’ve ever seen. If you see me wearing these, rest assured I have very fun plans for the evening.

  • Available sizes: 5 — 12
  • Available colors: 3

Slouchy Studded Boots With A Rebellious Streak

Soft, slouchy boots and studded shoes were both spotted all over the fall runways, so you can see why the Schutz Tulsa boots shot straight to the top of my list. They’re edgy and bold with a moto-like shaft and Western upper, while burnished studs make them an instant statement piece.

  • Available sizes: 5 — 11
  • Available colors: 2

Very Demure, Very Mindful Ballerina Pumps

Every bit as practical as a flat but with all the polish of a heel, Reiss’ ballerina shoes epitomize French-girl chic with jeans and a blazer — and that’s exactly how I intend to wear them. They’d be a smart choice for the office, too, but also have a cushioned footbed if you’ll be on your feet all day.

  • Available sizes: 5 — 10
  • Available colors: 3

A Sleek Cowboy Boot That Won’t Date Itself

Cowboy boots have been enjoying a serious revival, but I’ve got my eye on Rebecca Minkoff’s Colt boots that’ll look chic long after the moment has passed. Their uppers are subtly stitched in that iconic Western style with a Cuban heel, while a clean shaft gives them sophisticated staying power.

  • Available sizes: 5 — 11
  • Available colors: 3

Vintage Kicks In A Warm, Toasty Hue

The Nike Cortez is everything I want from a weekend sneaker, in an iconic retro design that’s been updated with a roomier toe box for serious comfort. In a toasty beige with mocha accents, it’s a warm and comforting alternative to classic white — just picture them with jeans and a cable-knit sweater.
