Kate Martin shares funny moment with Caitlin Clark trading card

With the lengthy WNBA offseason officially underway, Golden State guard Kate Martin posted a video on her TikTok of her opening a pack of WNBA trading cards, which concluded with a humorous reaction to revealing a rare card of former Iowa women’s basketball teammate and current Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark.

While many players try to enjoy leisure activities during the league’s roughly seven-to-eight-month offseason, Martin has apparently taken on the hobby of opening up trading cards.

During a streaming of her unboxing of a 2024 WNBA Panini Prizm trading card set, the former Hawkeye found cards featuring Minnesota Lynx star Natasha Cloud and former Phoenix Mercury head coach Sheryl Miller, which caused some excitement.

However, Martin’s last pack immediately shocked the second-year guard as she pulled a specialty-edition Clark rookie card.

Given that the two former Hawkeyes are still very much connected both on social media and in real life, Clark added her humor to the situation by commenting, “I’ll sign it for you hun.”

In her first year in the Bay Area after being selected by Golden State from the Las Vegas Aces in last December’s WNBA expansion draft, the 2024 second round pick (No. 18 overall) was primarily a spark plug off the Valkyries’ bench thanks to her sharp-shooting 3-point capabilities.

During her 42 games played and four starts for Golden State, Martin averaged 6.2 points and 2.7 rebounds per game on 32.3% shooting from the field, 31% from 3-point territory, and 78% from the free-throw line.

The 6-foot guard will be returning to Unrivaled for a second season, which the 3-on-3 basketball league announced in late September.

As for Clark, the Fever cornerstone indicated in her exit interview that her offseason plans will focus on getting healthy and maybe some USA Basketball work.
