Uniqlo and Disney Drop ‘Zootopia 2’ Apparel Collection

Uniqlo and Disney collaborated on a new apparel and accessories collection inspired by the forthcoming film “Zootopia 2,” as part of the Magic for All project. The collection will be available in stores and online beginning Nov. 1.

“Magic for All is more than a collaboration — it’s Uniqlo’s commitment to making Lifewear a canvas for imagination. Our ‘Zootopia’ collection brings that vision to life for people around the world,” Yukihiro Katsuta, group senior executive officer, told WWD in a statement.

Kicking off what Disney has dubbed “Ssssurprise Week,” a reference to Gary De’Snake, voiced by “Everything Everywhere All at Once” Oscar winner Ke Huy Quan, from “Zootopia 2,” the limited-edition collection features 15 new unisex adult and kids’ styles. Disney’s “Ssssurprise Week” will also feature a roll-out of other collaborations to celebrate the forthcoming “Zootopia” sequel.

Designed in vibrant colorways, the collection includes wardrobe staples from sweatshirts to graphic T-shirts and more. The comfortable, casual styles of the collection debut in time at the peak of the fall season.

Roomy sweatshirts and graphic T-shirts, reference “Zootopia” characters, including Judy Hopps, voiced by Ginnifer Goodwin, and Nick Wilde, voiced by Jason Bateman. The collection also includes an introduction to new characters, including the aforementioned Gary De’Snake.

Uniqlo and Disney’s collaborative relationship extends back more than a decade to 2009. By 2015, the Japanese brand launched a range of Disney products for Uniqlo’s LifeWear concept, featuring Disney, Star Wars, Marvel and Pixar properties.

In 2017, Uniqlo and Disney partnered for a collection inspired by the live-action release of “Beauty and the Beast,” featuring “bohemian style and casual items with a light, feminine silhouette, including a T-shirt with trendy puff sleeves and a mix of silky cut-and-sew material and semitransparent fabric, as well as a long shirt that can be draped like a gown,” per the brand’s description.

Initially founded in 1949 in Japan as a textiles manufacturer, Uniqlo has grown to a global apparel company with more than 1,000 stores worldwide. More recently, the brand celebrated the fifth anniversary of its circular initiative “Re.Uniqlo.” The initiative “expanded its scope from clothing collections to commercializing recycled down products, offering repair and remake services and resale pilots,” per Chizuru Muko’s reporting for WWD.

A sequel to the 2009 Oscar-winning animated film, “Zootopia 2” follows rabbit police officer Judy Hopps, voiced by Ginnifer Goodwin, and her friend, the fox Nick Wilde, voiced by Jason Bateman, as they reunite for another perilous case. The film hits theaters Nov. 26.
