Miguel Delaney was on Sky Sports’ Back Pages show last night talking about the future of Chelsea’s struggling talisman, Cole Palmer.

The Independent’s journalist insisted that the attacking midfielder would be interested in a move, and that United would “seriously go for him,” if they thought there was a chance to land him.

“So many clubs would want Cole Palmer and Manchester United are one who would, if there was any sort of possibility, they’d seriously go for him. And I think he would be open to it, but really, there’s no possibility to happen this summer,” Delaney said.

Palmer is a Manchester United fan, as Gary Neville revealed 18 months ago when he ranted about how the Red Devils had missed out on signing him form Manchester City.

Palmer transfer situation remains calm – for now

It’s a story we heard a lot about last year and earlier this season when Palmer was at the peak of his powers and Chelsea were starting to struggle.

How long could the Blues hope to keep hold of a world class player if they can’t offer him even Europa League football, let alone Champions League football? That talk has quietened down in recent times because of Palmer’s slump in form, but it will never be far from the headlines if he gets back to where he was and if Chelsea don’t start competing for top trophies.

Back in February, transfer insider Fabrizio Romano insisted that Chelsea were “relaxed” about Palmer’s future, given the long contract he’s on and given we’ve still got a chance of making the Champions League this season.

The best thing we can do is keep building, and Cole will be happy to stay.
