Caitlin Clark burst into the national conversation on February 26, 2022, after dropping 46 points in a loss to Michigan in Ann Arbor.
From this point on, Clark became a national phenomenon, captivating the sports world and news cycle as she became the face for a new generation of women's basketball that is taking women's basketball to new heights.
At one point the Hawkeyes were down 22 points in the game, but behind scoring from Clark they got it close in the end. While Iowa ended up losing the game, Clark was rewarded with a spot on the SportsCenter Top-10.
"Coach Bluder wasn't even that mad that we didn't win. She was like, staring at the TV like, ‘Oh my gosh,’" Clark said per David Letterman. "Everybody was just kind of in awe. Even I was like ‘Wow, we’re on SportsCenter. We made SportsCenter top 10.’”
Coach Bluder was certainly proud of Clark, and knew this was the beginning of something special, but to say she was not that mad with the loss isn't exactly true.
“We could see the ESPN replays going on, but I remember being a little more disappointed than she does about the loss, because obviously, you're going there to win,” Bluder said per IndyStar. “But also, you know, I was just amazed at the way that she brought us back and gave us an opportunity to win that game."
Coach Bluder and Caitlin Clark had their lives change overnight. They brought Iowa Hawkeye Women's Basketball to heights it had never seen before.
