Reminding us of how good we could’ve had it, Kamala Harris made her Met Gala debut Monday night to celebrate the “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style” exhibit.
Speculation swirled late last week about the former vice president potentially making an appearance during fashion’s biggest night after she was spotted in New York City, and to our fellow couch critics’ surprise, the rumors were true (as first confirmed by Vogue).

Harris, accompanied by husband Doug Emhoff, attended the star-studded gala and museum fundraiser in a black high-neck gown with a floor-length white sleeve designed by Off-White Creative Director IB Kamara. In keeping with the night’s dress code — “Tailored for You” — her flowing gown emphasizes sleek draping and color-blocking, all complemented by a black clutch.
“The precise simplicity of this black and cream look for Kamala D. Harris complements her own strength and confidence, two qualities I consider to be the core of dandyism,” Kamara said in a statement.

Her Off-White ensemble is a departure from her usual well-tailored pantsuits, which were her go-to uniform throughout her 2024 presidential campaign, and designed by the likes of Chloé, Gabriela Hearst and Sergio Hudson. Harris now joins Ella Emhoff as a fellow Met Gala attendee; her stepdaughter made her debut in 2021.
