Zendaya, Madonna, Anna Sawai, and More Rock the White Suit Trend at the 2025 Met Gala

“I wanted to respect the moment, so I came in a suit,” said the actress Anna Sawai—of Shōgun renown—on the red (navy) carpet at the 2025 Met Gala, speaking to the dress code “Tailored for You.”

“I know dandies are known for extravagance, but I wanted to keep it simple,” she added.

Sawai’s Dior look, with its peaked lapels, floor-grazing trousers and bar-accentuated tie—all in a matching soft cloud hue—became a standout in what would be one of the night’s chicest, sleekest trends: white suits.

Zendaya wore a similar silhouette. Her white suit was from Louis Vuitton and designed by Pharrell Williams (who heads Louis Vuitton’s menswear branch), and it had a little more retro fair—namely in its elongated bootcut pant legs. Zendaya’s ensemble also had a waistcoat, under which she knotted an oversize necktie.

Madonna alighted in an antique white modified tuxedo by Haider Ackermann for Tom Ford—cigar in hand, white rose brooch on the lapel. She hammed it up on the carpet, dragging her stogie and sauntering back and forth to talk with reporters. Where Sawai and Zendaya’s suits were more streamlined, Madonna’s was baggier in the leg and boxier through the tailcoat.

Mary J. Blige, in a white pantsuit and overcoat by Stella McCartney, accessorized the look with a wire fedora and a pile of necklaces. Hers was a more casual take on the trend. Model Imaan Hammam sported an hourglass-sculpted white suit, and topped it off with an ostrich feather hat.

Representing the gents, photographer Tyler Mitchell wore a regal Wales Bonner white suit with cobalt blue accents and a feather boa. And Christian Latchman—the man on the cover of the official “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style” catalog—rocked a white suit complete with a pleated train.
