On Friday night, LIM College students put on the school’s 80th annual fashion show at the Glasshouse in New York City. What makes LIM College’s show unique from most other fashion institutes is its exclusive focus on the business of fashion and lifestyle. Because of its unique curriculum, most students participated in this year’s event by curating brands, styling, marketing, set designing and event planning rather than clothing design.
The show — titled “Timeless Threads” — was split into eight sections inspired by the cyclical patterns of fashion trends, including “The Art of the Dandy,” “Retro Revival,” “Renovated Runway,” Tomorrow Today” and “Luxe Redux.” Nicole Miller, Mondo Guerra, Rinat Brodach, Chris Mena, Natalia Fedner and LaTouché were the runway’s highlighted participating designers.
The 81-look collection showcased the varied aesthetics embraced by LIM’s students, but common themes included interpretations of classic suiting silhouettes and re-purposed branded materials stitched onto coats, gowns and undergarments.
Pantone, which served as one of the evening’s main sponsors, presented Juliette Zamora with its “Mastery of Color” award. Tannese Williams, Pantone’s head of product marketing and development of fashion, home and interiors, said of the winning look, “From the rich, grounded tone of the mocha skirt to the soft shimmer of the iridescent pink bodice, it created a perfect balance of luxury and indulgence.”
The color company also awarded the show’s styling team with its “Artistry in Color” award, which recognizes those “behind the scenes…who bring a designer’s vision to life.”
Two first-year students, Kelly Gonzales and Shruti Jupudi, each received $1,500 LIM Fashion Education Foundation scholarships for their work on the production of the show.
