Florida basketball’s Alex Condon discussing 2025 NBA draft decision

Florida basketball forward Alex Condon is still deciding whether to stay in the 2025 NBA draft or return to Gainesville for his junior season, where he would rejoin a reloaded Gators squad fresh off a national championship.

Condon participated in shooting drills at the NBA draft combine this week, hitting 13-of-25 in the three-point star drill and 16-of-30 off the dribble. He did not take part in scrimmages but remained active with team interviews and assessments.

The 6-foot-11-inch Australian native told Sports Illustrated’s Kevin Sweeney that he’s currently projected to be picked in the 20-35 range of this year’s draft, but remains open to returning to Florida if the draft outlook doesn’t firm up.

“I’ve got a good situation waiting for me at Florida,” Condon said. “It has to be a good situation for me to stay (in the draft), but feedback I’m getting from teams right now is positive and I’m ready to stay in if I need to.”

Florida head coach Todd Golden, who joined Condon at the combine, echoed the calculated approach the Gators are taking with the standout big man.

“You’ve got a guy like Condo (Condon), who’s a great prospect,” Golden said during ESPN2’s live coverage. “And for him it’s more like, ‘Do you want to maybe come back and potentially be a lottery guy next year?’ These are the kinds of conversations we’re having with these different guys.”

Condon’s case is unique. As a sophomore, he was a critical piece of Florida’s title-winning team, averaging 10.6 points and 7.5 rebounds while leading the Gators in blocks (49). He recorded seven double-doubles, notched 18 double-figure scoring games and earned All-SEC honors from both the league’s coaches and national outlets.

As the May 29 withdrawal deadline nears, Condon’s choice will have a major impact on both Florida’s upcoming season and his own draft trajectory.

Should he return, Condon could be one of the top front-court players in college basketball–and potentially a lottery pick in 2026.
