The Brooklyn Nets are still in the early stages of their offseason as they’re looking to make the most out of one of the most important summers in recent memory. For the time being, Brooklyn is recovering from a long 2024-25 season, but one of the players on the team is still consuming basketball in support of another team that plays at Barclays Center.
The WNBA’s New York Liberty won their season-opener over the Las Vegas Aces on Saturday 92-78 thanks in part to how guard Natasha Cloud performed. Cloud, who came to the Liberty in March via a trade from the Connecticut Sun, dropped 22 points, six rebounds, nine assists, three steals, and two blocks in what had to be one of the best games of her career as she begins her 10th season in the W.
Cloud played so well that Brooklyn forward Trendon Watford posted on X that “Cloud got the clays lit” to show his appreciation for what she was doing on the floor for the reigning league champions. Despite the Liberty having to face reigning league MVP A’ja Wilson, who put forth who own spectacular outing of 31 points and 16 rebounds, New York was able to begin their 2025 campaign with a victory.
If the Liberty are going to make it back to the WNBA Finals, they will need players like Cloud to be on their A game given that teams like the Aces and the Minnesota Lynx will seek to be in their path once again. As long as New York has Cloud, forward Breanna Stewart (25 points, eight rebounds) and center Jonquel Jones (17 points, 10 rebounds, six assists) firing on all cylinders, they will have a chance to repeat as champions.
The Liberty began the day with them raising their 2024 championship banner to the Barclays Center rafters and they ended it with a win over one of the best teams in the W coming into this season. Moving forward, New York is hoping that they can provide more great experiences for their fanbase, including someone like Watford who could be at the Clays more often as a result.
