Ben White finally confirms his England stance

Ben White has officially confirmed his availability for involvement with England, with kind words for new manager Thomas Tuchel.

Though he’s made 158 appearances for Arsenal over the last few years as a key member of Mikel Arteta’s squad, Ben White has only played two games for England during that period.

After a strong start to life with Arsenal, White was involved with England over the March 2022 international break. He was then called up for the World Cup later that year.

But that tournament brought the falling out that ended White’s time playing for Gareth Southgate’s England and began a two-year absence from the squad.

The early signs with new England boss Thomas Tuchel were that things could be different under his tenure. The manager held talks with White, and publicly insisted he’d only left him out in March due to his lack of minutes following knee surgery.

Yet White himself didn’t officially confirm his availability until this week, in an interview with the Mirror.

“I’m definitely available,” White said. “I spoke to him (Thomas Tuchel) a few times and he’s such a nice, nice man, very honest.”

“Obviously I haven’t been back for too long so it’s just about playing now and hopefully making my way back in.”

With Jurrien Timber’s recent injury absence, White has had a chance to get back out onto the pitch for some minutes in May. The only problem is that we’re already so close to the end of the club season, with just one game remaining against Southampton.

We’ll find out soon whether White has done enough to earn an England call-up in June, with the team set to face Andorra in a World Cup qualifier and Senegal in a friendly.
