In the first few months of the year, we once again anonymously surveyed more than 400 people working across the fashion industry — including retail, PR, design, media, marketing, styling and corporate roles — to find out how much money they make. The results are in, and you can view all of our findings by downloading the report below.

First, here’s a sneak peek:

Who took our survey?

Our respondents work for companies including Gap Inc., KCD, Nordstrom, PVH Corp., Rachel Comey, PacSun, Tory Burch and many more, while others are self-employed founders or freelancers. For salary information, we asked how much they made in 2024 before taxes. While we aimed for — and got — a mix of demographics, the majority of respondents identify as white and female and live in New York; they mostly reported having a Bachelor’s degree and working for a small or medium private company.

The average salary of our respondents was $111,200. Breaking things down further, we saw pretty clear correlations between pay and experience level, as well as the specific field in which a respondent worked. For example, the average salary was $93,770 for those working in fashion media, $108,770 for those working in PR, and $157,570 for those in corporate roles.

What else is in the report?

You’ll find average salaries for specific roles ranging from assistant buyer to fashion director, from senior publicist to account executive, from designer to creative director. You’ll see how salaries change based on experience, where they work, the size of the company, as well as race and gender.

You’ll also see how satisfied employees are with their pay, how happy they are in general and what their biggest frustrations are with their jobs. Our goal? To provide a full, transparent picture of what it looks like to work in fashion today, so that you can make more informed career decisions moving forward.
