Will the Nets receive a trade offer from the Suns for Nic Claxton?

The Brooklyn Nets have a lot of decisions to make during the 2025 NBA offseason as they look to build on a 26-56 record during the 2024-25 campaign. Brooklyn has four first-round picks to use ahead of the 2025 NBA Draft and while those picks could net them some impact players, they may have to consider making some changes via the trade market as well.

“One roster rumble that has emerged from the desert: Sources say that Phoenix, whether or not Durant is ultimately dealt before training camp, will be prioritizing the addition of a starting-level center this offseason,” NBA insider Jake Fischer wrote of the Phoenix Suns’ goals for this summer. The Suns are in an interesting spot as they are trying to make things work with a roster of Devin Booker and Bradley Beal with the expectation that Kevin Durant will be traded.

“The Suns want a further upgrade on the move they made during the season to deal away Jusuf Nurkić and replace him with Nick Richards via Charlotte,” Fischer continued. While Phoenix will be looking to improve the team however they can, if they are looking to add a starting-level center, it’s possible that they could seek to trade for Nets center Nic Claxton to fill the void.

The Suns’ had plenty of issues that led to them finishing with a disappointing 36-46 record, good for 11th place in the Western Conference and causing them to miss the playoffs for the first time since the 2019-20 season. Phoenix’s center rotation over the course of the season went from Jusuf Nurkic and Nick Richards with players like Durant, Mason Plumlee, and rookie Oso Ighodaro being the big men.

To be clear, there haven’t been many rumors implicating that the Nets are looking to trade Claxton away, but that doesn’t mean that Brooklyn wouldn’t consider dealing away the former Georgia Bulldog for the right price. When it comes to the Suns, it would be tough to see what they could give the Nets that would make them part with Claxton, but there is always a way to make trades work.

Claxton, 26, has been rumored to be a potential trade target of the Los Angeles Lakers as they are looking for an upgrade at center so Brooklyn could have an opportunity to amass more value if the offers are good enough. Claxton is coming off a solid season for the Nets as he averaged 10.3 points, 7.4 rebounds, 2.2 assists, and 1.4 blocks per game while shooting 56.3% from the field and 51.3% from the free-throw line.
